Cattle Import
All cattle and bison coming into the State of Washington are required to enter with a permit. Permits can be obtained by veterinarians or brand inspectors online or by calling 360-902-1878.
All cattle leaving Washington State must be accompanied by a brand inspection.
Beef cattle going to private ownership
- All cattle require a CVI, and an entry permit.
- All sexually intact cattle over the age of 18 months must be individually identified on the CVI.
- Bulls under the age of 18 months that have never been exposed to breeding females require a virgin bull statement on the CVI.
- Bulls over the age of 18 months must also have a negative trichomoniasis test result, within the last 60 days, on the CVI.
- All female beef cattle over 4 months of age require bangs vaccination and a legible tattoo.
- All beef cattle 12 months of age or older must have a negative bovine tuberculosis test within sixty days before entry into Washington state and must be officially individually identified when:
- All cattle require a CVI, an entry permit, and must be individually identified on the CVI.
- All cattle over 12 months of age must have a negative tuberculosis test listed on the CVI.
- All females over the age of 4 months require bangs vaccination. Washington State does accept adult vaccinated cattle.
- All females over the age of 20 months require a negative brucellosis test listed on the CVI.
- All bulls over the age of 6 months require a negative brucellosis test listed on the CVI.
- Bulls 18 months of age or older require a bovine trichomoniasis (qPCR) test within 60 days of import and have had no contact with female cattle from the time of the test to the time of the import.
- Rodeo stock are not exempt from testing requirements.
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), an entry permit, and must be individually identified on the CVI.

- All sexually intact beef cattle over the age of 18 months, and all dairy cattle, regardless of age, must be individually identified on the CVI.

- Testing and vaccination requirements are exempted for entry, but must be met before cattle leave the livestock market.
- All cattle must have a negative tuberculosis test result, within 12 months, listed on the CVI.
- All bulls must have a negative trichomoniasis test result, within 12 months, listed on the CVI.
- All cattle require a CVI and a permit, and must be individually identified on the CVI.
- All cattle must be CAN branded on the right hip.
- All females and bulls over the age of 6 months must have a negative brucellosis test result listed on the CVI.
- Bulls under the age of 18 months that have never been exposed to breeding females require a virgin bull statement on the CVI.
- Bulls over the age of 18 months must have a negative trichomoniasis test result on the CVI.
- Bulls over the age of 12 months must have a negative tuberculosis test result on the CVI. The cattle need to be tested no more than 60 days before entry.
- Cattle must remain in slaughter channels once in Washington and must not be commingled with breeding cattle.

- All cattle must be sexually neutered.
- All cattle must have official Mexican identification.
- All cattle must be M branded.
- All cattle must be accompanied by proof of 2 negative tuberculosis tests conducted in the United States after entry from Mexico before they travel to Washington. The 2nd negative test must be a minimum of 60 days after the 1st test and within 30 days before entry into Washington.
