Lego Brick Sorter

license

It can be frustrating digging through a pile of Lego bricks to find just the piece you want. This sorter will do a rough sort on size to make it a bit easier.

Step 1: Materials

You will need a drill and several different size bits. I used 1 inch (22.5 mm) and 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) bits.

You will also need containers that nest. I bought 3 buckets and 1 lid from the hardware store (total $10). You could use old food service buckets or kitty litter buckets to make it even less expensive.

Step 2: Drill Some Holes and Stack the Buckets.

Drill large holes in one bucket, small holes in another and leave one bucket without holes.

Stack the buckets so that the one with no holes is on the bottom followed by small holes and then large holes.

Step 3: Add Legos, Lid and Shake

Add separated Legos to the top bucket. Add the lid. Gently shake back and forth and up and down. Large pieces will be retained in the top bucket while smaller ones will fall through to the bottom.
